Steph is a freelance science writer and educator, and is currently pursuing an MA in Science Education at the Mallinson Institute for Science Education at Western Michigan University.

After earning her PhD, Steph returned to Kenya to determine the population status of lions, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas in the Masai Mara National Reserve. She now lives with her family at the northern edge of the greater Mara-Serengeti, “where the Mara ends and the farms begin.”

Steph continues to collaborate with us on aspects of our carnivore research and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Integrative Biology at MSU. She is the Chairwoman of the IUCN SSC Hyaena Specialist Group and a member of the Cat Specialist Group.
